Opera « Alice » by Philip Glass

📖 Program: (2022) 5.1 mix, for Japanese national television, of the opera « Alice » by Philip Glass • Amir Hosseinpour & Jonathan Lunn at the « Opéra National du Rhin ».

A world premiere featuring music and choreography.
A ballet set to original music by Philip Glass, based on the novel by Lewis Carroll (1865).
In the early 1860s, to entertain young Alice Liddell, Lewis Carroll invented a wondrous and truly strange world — a place where common sense is illogical, cats are nihilistic, hatters are mad, silkworms are opium addicts, and playing cards serve as soldiers under the command of a tyrannical Queen of Hearts. Written down in 1865, « Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland » — followed in 1871 by « Through the Looking-Glass » — became a massive popular success. Before long, British schoolchildren and their parents alike knew the incredible adventures of young Alice, who, to escape the boredom of a summer afternoon, followed a very hurried White Rabbit — clad in a frock coat and carrying a pocket watch — down into his burrow. From Walt Disney to Tim Burton, artists across all disciplines have drawn inspiration from this boundless, teeming imagination.
Set to a new score by Philip Glass — a leading figure of American minimalism — choreographers Amir Hosseinpour and Jonathan Lunn come back and make their own the phantasmagorical universe imagined by Lewis Carroll. Freed from the narrative of the original story, the dancers of the OnR Ballet embody a new array of contemporary creatures and characters alongside actress Sunnyi Melles.

Runny Noise – Fisherman

📖 Program: (2018) Creation of a 360° music video clip using a 360° camera and Ambeo mixing.
Runny Noise is an immersive concert blending beatmaking — using sounds from the world around us — with live music played in surround sound.
The group was born from the meeting of JB Juszczak and Romain Muller and their desire to compose music using fragments of soundscapes gathered over more than a decade of travel. From north to south, the collected atmospheres fuel an emotionally raw sound where the musicians respond to the murmurs of waves and shout in unison with a city under construction. Sounds intertwine in a « musique concrète » style production with world and hip-hop influences — a contrasting, bustling, nomadic soundscape.
