📖 Program: (2021) « L’inorganique d’Alfred » — a sound installation and immersive composition at « Les Dominicains de Haute Alsace ».

« Stepping into the underground section of the Dominicains’ complex means embarking on an adventure: an immersive journey into an entirely imaginary kingdom — a wonderfully offbeat, Eastern-inspired trip.
Guided by the deep, reassuring voice of Kalevi Uibo and immersed in a psychoacoustic environment created by Romain Muller, the visitor understands absolutely nothing (and neither did we, for that matter).
It becomes purely a matter of sensation—felt through the ears, the emotions, and the entire body.
A stream of improvised words sweeps you away into an ethereal universe, bordering with a trance state.
This sound installation was custom-designed for the vault, which is now equipped with a brand-new immersive-speaker system.
Available to all artists, the system allows for surround-sound listening experiences.
Total immersion is guaranteed, offering a chance to find one’s centre in a state of heightened awareness. »

Sound journeys in 360° at Neuenbourg’s Castle

📖 Program: (Since 2020) One immersive sound creation per year in the park of the Neuenbourg’s Castle in Guebwiller.
2020: An inaugural triptych featuring musical settings of Indian poems, a musical tale, and a composition showcase: « Les Murmures de la Neuenbourg » (The Whispers of Neuenbourg).

India in the air

📖 Program: (2019) Each year, the Dominican’s Garden presents a new multi-speaker sound installation.
The concept?
-> Speakers are placed directly on the ground, broadcasting a soundscape that blankets the garden amidst the plants.
Following Vincent Villuis’s « Jacasseries végétales » (Plant Chatter) and Plonk & Replonk’s « Hymne au Nanisme » (Hymn to Dwarfism), this year is all about Zen: a commission from the « Audio Visual Centre » awarded to composer and sound designer Romain Muller. He developed the project using recordings of Nawab Khan, an artist-in-residence at the Dominican site in June 2019.
A sound installation for 8 speakers by Romain Muller, based on recordings featuring Nawab Khan and his family (santur, vocals, tabla, sarangi) and ambient sounds from Guebwiller :
« Let yourself be carried away by the call of voices. Enjoy a traditional welcome piece, accompanied by the surround-sound acoustics of the nave.
Then, embark on a journey through resonant samples. Drift through a shower of santur notes; feel yourself levitate. The sounds carry you to the centre of the garden.
Finally, lulled by the sarangi (Indian violin), settle down slowly… Zen… You can experience it all over again from a different spot in the garden.
And perhaps enjoy a mantra while sitting under a tree. »
